Felis Magus

Felis Magus (2022).

I draw animals rarely, but when I do, they also tend to appear in a fantasy context (what can I say, I just really enjoy fantasy as a sandbox of storytelling). The title is a pun on the Latin name of the domesticated cat, Felis catus, meaning something like magic cat or sorcerer cat. Sometimes naming works is difficult, but this one hit me already while I was painting this.

I have to say that this piece was a nightmare to scan. A colour scheme like this generally doesn’t scan well, but I’m thankfully quite used to adjusting the colours of my scans digitally, and I did get it to match the original watercolour quite closely.
